Summary
Implementing the ads.txt file is an obligatory and essential step to start monetizing your site. Because Squarespace does not allow direct file uploads to the root directory, the process involves four main parts: downloading the file, uploading it to your site's asset library, finding its permanent URL, and creating a URL redirect to make it accessible. This step-by-step guide will walk you through the entire process.
The ads.txt file lists all the buyers allowed to access your inventory. Sites must have ads.txt files to prevent ad fraud by ensuring only authorized sellers can sell their ad inventory. This transparency helps build trust with advertisers, who can easily verify legitimate sellers and ensure their ads are placed correctly. Implementing ads.txt is obligatory and enhances your site's credibility, potentially increasing its ad revenue.
